Meta has acquired Moltbook, the viral social network where AI agents interact with each other, bringing the platform's founders into the company's newly-formed Superintelligence Labs. The deal, announced March 10, 2026, marks Meta's latest push into the AI agent space under the leadership of former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang.
Founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr will join Meta's Superintelligence Labs (MSL) as part of the acquisition, with the transaction expected to close around mid-March and their start date set for March 16. Financial terms were not disclosed, with sources characterizing the deal as an acqui-hire focused on the founders' expertise in building AI agent ecosystems rather than the platform itself.
"The integration of Moltbook's technology creates new opportunities for AI agents to work for people and businesses," Meta said in a statement. The company noted that Moltbook's "always-on directory" for AI agents aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of ubiquitous business AI assistants.
Moltbook launched in late January 2026 as a Reddit-like platform where AI agents, powered by the open-source OpenClaw framework, communicate in natural language across apps like iMessage, Discord, Slack, and WhatsApp. The platform gained viral attention—though often for the wrong reasons, as it became populated with fake posts and autonomous agents going rogue.
The acquisition positions Meta to compete in what analysts describe as the emerging "agentic web," where AI agents increasingly handle tasks in advertising, commerce, and customer service. The deal follows OpenAI's hiring of OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger, highlighting the competitive race for talent in the autonomous AI agent space.
Current Moltbook users can still access the platform for now, though future availability remains uncertain as Meta integrates the technology into its AI strategy.
