Salesforce transforms Slackbot into full AI agent with 30 new features

Salesforce has announced a major AI overhaul for Slack, unveiling 30 new AI features that transform the platform's simple notification bot into a fully-fledged enterprise AI agent. The update, announced March 31, 2026, represents Salesforce's most aggressive move yet to position Slack as the center of workplace AI.

The centerpiece of the update is Slackbot's complete transformation. Where it once handled simple queries and notifications, the AI agent can now draft emails, schedule meetings, search inboxes for specific information, and transcribe and summarize meetings. Users can retrieve key details and action points from discussions they missed without leaving the Slack interface.

Reusable AI Skills allow users to define specific tasks for Slackbot that can be applied across multiple scenarios. The feature includes a built-in library of pre-made skills, and users can create custom versions tailored to their organization's needs. Once configured, these skills execute autonomously without requiring ongoing human input.

The upgrade also brings desktop-level integration, extending Slackbot's reach beyond Slack's interface. The agent can now monitor activity across deals, conversations, calendars, and user habits to generate actionable suggestions or draft follow-ups for critical tasks.

Multi-tool connectivity enables Slackbot to function as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) client, connecting to external services including Salesforce's Agentforce AI agent development platform and over 2,600 apps in the Slack Marketplace. This allows the agent to route work or prompt questions to external systems without human intervention.

Slack's interim CEO Rob Seaman noted that privacy protections are built into the system, with users retaining control over permissions. The company claims the new features can save users up to 20 hours per week. The enhanced Slackbot is currently available to Business+ and Enterprise+ customers, with plans to bring the features to free and Pro users in the coming months.
